About Tara L Newby
Romance with ALL the spice AND all the feels,
for the rebel in you.
While you might want to be called a ‘Good Girl’ in bed, it doesn’t mean you want to embody that personality, out of the bedroom!

I've always been a little ‘out of the box’, rebellious, or contrary as my mum would call it. But the rebel battled with the inner people pleaser. For years, the people pleaser won. I wrote, read, studied, and taught, literary fiction, getting a kick out of the praise and high marks (praise kink, anyone?).
But then I developed a chronic illness which short-circuited my brain and body (Long Covid SUCKS). I only started healing when I embraced a different lifestyle. One in which I spent time outdoors, focused on joy and fun, and avoided stress!

And that love of outdoors can be found in my books. Set in North Wales, you’ll find small towns, spectacular mountains, and breathtaking forests. Some are fictional, but some are not. Some I have visited, and others are still physically out of reach requiring plenty of research and imagination.
As for bringing more joy into my life, I ditched the literary fiction and academia and switched to spicy romance (so much joy, *sigh*.) Their feel-good factor and happy endings lit up my brain (and, let’s be honest, the sex lit up a lot of other things, too!).

Writing spicy romance has been quite the thrill, especially as my (mostly) Gen X characters are like you and me - rebels, refusing to submit to society’s expectations. And their life experience means that, while seeking their happy-ever-after romances, they also deal with bigger topics such as domestic abuse, suicide, and gender expectations.

But one thing they’re not juggling is children. There is no doubt that sex gets better with age and experience. But children make it difficult. Plus, for some readers, the topic of children is triggering. My novels are sexy-as-hell romantic fantasies, not real life. Children are banned from the pages.

My household is neurodiverse.
-
Dexter, the Welsh Border Collie with issues, fits in perfectly.
-
My favourite flavour of ice cream is blackcurrant and liquorice (don’t let that put you off…)
-
I’m “young at heart”. Okay, let’s be honest, I’m childish – I run away and hide from my adult children in the supermarket, and I laugh at all the toilet jokes.
-
I do NOT own too many books, because they don’t even qualify as a library.
-
I often write outdoors, sometimes even in woodland.
-
I have proper grown-up qualifications in English and literature, but I refuse to actually grow up.

I once drove across actual mountains to see my then favourite author speak. I do NOT like mountain roads.

I love walking and nature, and although I once used to be a city girl, I LOVE living in the countryside.
-
Sometimes I hate peopling (hello, introvert), other times I’m a hyperactive, giggling mess on the dance floor. I don’t understand me, either.
-
I wasn’t my English teacher’s favourite student. Quite the opposite. I’m putting two fingers up to him now.
